Experimental Skateboard Printing

So this is a comp that I will be printed and eventually applied to skateboards. I’m not starting my own company in hopes of making it. The skate industry is fickle because of fuel tv and other ultra mainstream sources. More kids now talk about Rob Dyrdek (I know he has been around awhile) then even know who Rodney Mullen is.

In my opinion the art on boards has become homogenized with clip art and vector graphics plus mass production process of Heat transfer vinyl instead of screen printing. My goal is to use the imperfections and strengths of waterbase printing. To be experimental with overlays, transparencies and texture. There will be no cool/hip/trendy brand name associated with it. I’m sick of hard brand loyalty because of image, it takes away from the actual experience of skating and is even like the Disney brand at times. Trying to get kids young so they are forever fixated on the golden calf. Obviously not every brand is like this. There are brands out there that do focus on the actual skate culture.

There is some testing that has to be done before the final product is made but it will happen. These boards are ment to be skated and will come with an art print so the buyer will not feel guilty about ripping the shit out of it. More to come….

Dead Horse

Hi, sorry for the long period of silence but those silences are necessary sometimes. Today I will show you some of prelimenary drawings for the Dead horse poster.

2 color 20x13

The image in the top is the final product. It originally started with the inspiration from a Gary Panter drawing that I have in a book. So I re drew my favorite part the dead horse.

Then I started thinking about Text.

I mixed computer fonts with hand drawn so it eventually ended up like what you see on the poster.

Then after much consideration I decided to add another layer of hand drawn elements.

The buildings are images are copyright free photos from the internet that I either turned black and white or I made into half tones. Well there you have it, with out giving away to much.

New Parade of Flesh poster!

Here is a two color poster that I did for John Iskander of Parade of Flesh. I really pushed my self with this one to have the main image be more of a conceptual idea then to be a crazy hand drawn form that looks weird. The print is soon to follow. Thank you to John for giving me the opportunity to do the poster. Process thread coming tomorrow. The idea came from a CD cover that Kim Hiorthoy that does design for Rune Grammofon from Norway.

2 color, size not yet determined.
