MeMe Gallery Presents Nevada Hill (Rubber Gloves): Though Denton’s Nevada Hill has done poster work for midsize to large venues, such as The Granada and The Loft, he still isn’t as widely received as some local poster artists. You don’t tend to see his work in poster contests, which may to do with the fact that he doesn’t really bother much with the clean-lined, crisp, design school hack aesthetic. He isn’t heavy on the “negative space” and other easy 8th grade art lesson pointers.
But he is a favorite of bands that want a piece of art that is as unique as they perceive their music to be — perhaps even more so. And it’s the shrewd venue representative that understands that this work is certainly going to stick out from the slick poster art glut threatening to topple Dallas. Hill will have pieces for sale that range from a simple poster, to cheap five dollar t-shirts, to his comic series entitled Mass 3.
As for the show, it features a diverse and high quality lineup including a band that has played D’s offices (Dust Congress), a vicious rock duoT2, and DJ sets from Daniel Huffman (New Fumes) and Matt Leer(Diamond Age). Also performing are two virtuosos from The UNT music school, composer Greg Dixon and clarinetist Rachel Yoder, who perform under the name Odd Partials.
Chris Mosley is my favorite DFW Music writer.
