So today instead of just posting an image and typing some dibble I’m going to talk a little bit about the process I went through to create a new poster for a local booking agent that goes by the name Parade of Flesh for a show at the Nightmare on the 21st with Thrones.

After deciding my concept I laid out some type to start with. Then I cut it up and drew all over it and scanned it back in. To create the info layer for the poster. I always start thinking about the type first. There was another incarnation of the type that I will not share with you.

Printout, graphite, Ink

Next after going through many concepts I decided upon drawing Mr. Prestons beard for the main image. Then I thought it was a little mundane so I through in some vein/intestine/brain matter objects I have enjoyed drawing over the last couple weeks.

Ink on Vellum

Then I had a vision of a transparency layer going over this one to create more interest. At this point in the process I have already put many hours drawing these things and I’m excited about the final image but also incredibly anxious about it as well because it could look like shit and I will have to start over again. Editing though is an important self discipline for a contemporary designer. So here is the last layer that I created.

Now I have the raw elements of the poster. All scanned in so know I want to play around with them in photoshop. Several hours of placing, color changes and cursing I some how came up with two color options. The promoter likes the red one, I do to I think it is more reflective of Thrones music.
